Summary

This is a book to guide young people through making things on their own (with a little help or guidance from an adult if needed) with few words and plenty of pictures to follow。 As mainstream and Steiner-Waldorf curricula are under more pressure to fulfill academic goals, these projects will provide opportunities to connect with the natural world and to develop dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and creativity with a series of tried and tested, age-appropriate projects to gradually build on skills and techniques。 Featuring ways to make useful and personalized items, the projects and techniques are accompanied by stories that children will relate to。 Practical craft projects are suitable for children aged 6–8 years, classes 1 and 2 of Steiner-Waldorf school, to follow on their own or with support。 Tips and techniques for teaching are also included。

This book is clearly set out with easy to understand, step by step instructions, step by step illustrations and photographs of the finished piece。 The examples of the children’s handiwork are beautiful! Knitting patterns can read like algebra, but the way the patterns are shown in this book are so accessible。 the patterns are shown as a diagram, showing how many stitches in a way you can visualise the instructions easily。 Having tried a couple of these I can say they are perfect for children and This book is clearly set out with easy to understand, step by step instructions, step by step illustrations and photographs of the finished piece。 The examples of the children’s handiwork are beautiful! Knitting patterns can read like algebra, but the way the patterns are shown in this book are so accessible。 the patterns are shown as a diagram, showing how many stitches in a way you can visualise the instructions easily。 Having tried a couple of these I can say they are perfect for children and non knitters! There are some really fun ideas in this book, lots of cute animals to knit, rainbow balls, weaving ideas, useful hand sewn crafts such as shoe bags and recorder cases and some clearly shown useful techniques such as sewing on a button and making a button hole, knots and casting on and off, and lots more。Although the age guide is 6 - 8 years, these crafts can be enjoyed by any age, a wonderful family resource!
